Three starred tables

Within forty-five minutes of Beaurecueil, three restaurants hold a Michelin star. Each has its own setting: a terrace facing Sainte-Victoire, the salons of an eighteenth-century château, a wine estate north of Aix.

The closest is Le Saint-Estève, eight minutes away, at Les Lodges Sainte-Victoire in Le Tholonet. Chef Julien Le Goff cooks seasonal food with Mediterranean accents, served on a terrace that looks at the mountain over the olive trees. Open Tuesday to Saturday, lunch and dinner.

At Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, north of Aix, the Château de Fonscolombe, an eighteenth-century house in a listed park, is home to La Table de l’Orangerie. Chef Marc Fontanne cooks the vegetables from the château’s kitchen garden; the restaurant holds a star in the 2026 Michelin Guide. Dinner only, Tuesday to Saturday.

Also north of town, the Château de la Gaude, a wine estate with a hotel and spa, is home to Le Art, which is starred too.

In Aix

In town, Étude, on rue Aumône-Vieille near Place Richelme, serves a chef’s cooking selected by the Michelin Guide. For a simpler lunch, the terraces of the Mazarin quarter and the old town squares are all a market day needs.

Local tables

In Beaurecueil itself, La Table de Beaurecueil occupies a former sheepfold at the end of an avenue of mulberry trees: traditional Provençal cooking, wines by the glass, and a house that has hosted the village’s celebrations for decades.

In Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon, the Maison Sainte-Victoire restaurant serves home cooking from local produce, with wines from the appellation, on a terrace facing the massif: the ideal stop after a hike.

In Puyloubier, the Relais de Saint-Ser, a seventeenth-century country house against the mountain, opens its panoramic terrace onto the Arc valley and the Sainte-Baume. And in Le Tholonet, L’Atelier des Lodges, the estate’s brasserie, has Le Saint-Estève’s view in a simpler register.

Here, a good dinner often starts at the morning market.

The taste of the market

Provence is tasted at the market first: tomatoes and melons in summer, goat’s cheese, olives and tapenade, fougasse, orchard fruit. To take home: olive oil from Aix-en-Provence, calissons, Puyricard chocolates and rosés from the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire. Market days are in our practical guide.

Evenings at home

Many of our guests end up dining on the terrace: a basket from the Place Richelme market, a bottle from a Puyloubier estate, the pool still warm and the mountain fading. It may be the finest table in the guide.
